The 22 Principles of Rabbi Shlomo Yehuda Be'eri shlit"a
Whoever persists in reading these 22 principles will merit to see a change in his mind, in his soul, and in his life. One who is in need of salvation — if he persists in reading them for forty days — they are able to awaken mercy and hasten his salvation, G-d willing. If it is too much, read and focus on one each day.
1. To know that there is no reality besides Hashem, blessed be He.
2. To remember always that Hashem is with you in every moment. Whatever may come — He, blessed be He, is with you.
3. To know that Hashem loves us more than we love Him, and more than any love that exists in this world.
4. "And you shall love Hashem your God" — to love Hashem truly and tangibly. The love of the heart was created only to bring us, in its fullness, to love the One who created all loves.
5. To thank Hashem for every breath, and for every single moment of life.
6. To thank Hashem for hearing, sight, speech, the ability to move, to walk, to eat, to digest, to think, to contemplate, and more.
7. To thank Hashem for every good thing in your life — all He has done with you, is doing with you, and will yet do with you.
8. To always look at the essence, the purpose, and the good in every situation. For in everything you experience, there is good.
9. To think good thoughts about yourself, and to connect to the clean, pure point within your heart.
10. To find the good in every Jew — to find the light and the goodness in every person. For within each one there dwells a unique Divine spark.
11. To remember that the human being was created in the image of God, and to honor every person. From this honor flows the hidden light that gives life to the world.
12. To love every Jew with a love that depends on nothing.
13. When you meet a Jew, or even remember one, pray to Hashem in your heart that you merit to love him truly.
14. To bless every Jew with full intention of heart — and to believe in the power of a blessing.
15. When you meet a Jew, give him true encouragement and real hope from within your heart — and be careful never to be 'one with the mouth and another with the heart'.
16. Strive to contemplate the greatness of Hashem and the greatness of the soul hidden within you. Believe in the power of that soul. It was drawn from the Creator Himself — and He is all-powerful and cannot be hindered. Therefore everything is open before you. Through this contemplation, you bring the treasures buried in your soul from potential into reality.
17. Awaken hope in your heart by picturing, in your mind's eye, the time of the future salvation — when all the veils and the hiding of Hashem's face have already passed away.
18. Be strong in spirit through everything you go through — never let your mind grow weak.
19. Remember all the true, mighty, and courageous tzaddikim of every generation. Learn from their contemplation and from their trials. Remember their devotion and their cleaving to the goal, and yearn to be more and more courageous yourself.
20. Be calm and settled in mind — without pressure or confusion — and especially so in serving Hashem. In moments of inner stillness you can reach in a short time what years of hurried labor will not reach. 'Better a little with intention.'
21. Be patient and authentic — and always seek and yearn for integrity, truth, and good character.
22. Habituate yourself to pray with your lips and your tongue. Before every single thing you do, say simply: 'Master of the World, help me with this' — 'grant me success in that.'
